Ron Cockerham was born in Elkin, NC. His art talent was evident at a very early age. His first award came when he took first place in an art competition in the first grade. Encouraged by his first grade teacher, an artist who recognized his potential, his interest in at continued to grow. After graduationg from high school, Ron attended the Ringling School of Art. He went into the commercial art field as a technical illustrator and taught art in the college classroom. Ron continued his study in art by expanding to portraiture. He has studied under John Howard Sanden and Daniel Greene.
